The YG(B)201G Formaldehyde tester for textiles is a unique analytical instrument designed to detect the formaldehyde content in textiles. Formaldehyde is used in textiles for several functions mainly related to durability, wrinkle resistance, and shrink control. However, high exposure to fabric can cause respiratory issues and allergic reactions. So, measuring the formaldehyde content is crucial to maintaining a person’s safety and well-being.

The tester operates based on spectrometric analysis by cutting the sample fabric into small pieces to maximize the surface area. These pieces are placed into sealed containers with any extraction solvent. By heating this at a constant temperature, formaldehyde in the sample will dissolve, and the solution is extracted, which is mixed with a chromogenic reagent that gives color. The color change shows the amount of formaldehyde in the sample fabric. Then, the tester measures the absorbance of this color using optical sensors, and the formaldehyde concentration is calculated.
